The future of hospitality and Aspirations for our Profession
Hospitality and the industry as a whole face a shortfall of 14 million jobs by 2030. Negative perceptions of the industry, widening skill gaps and a failure to retain talent are just a few of the challenges faced by businesses and employers around the world.
So, how can we as an industry keep up with the demand and thrive?
As leaders we will need to create a whole range of solutions to help attract and retain future talent, we will all be charged with making our industry an attractive and inspiring place to work and employers must be supportive of your role, otherwise we risk, losing the very best of us to other trades.
Aspirations for our Profession
Collectively if we can work together to modernize our profession, we can create a Modern Alliance of ideals which unite us, much in the same way that the Clef d’or is bound by common goals, values and aims. It is up to us to define who we are, and what we represent, how we are perceived and how we are treated and cared for.
Horror stories will always exist where bad employers and poor-quality employees will give our profession a bad name. Our industry has reached a crossroad. Will employment practices improve to encourage people to join our profession? Will employees raise their game, raise standards and be unflinching in our pursuit of continual improvement?
Our profession can modernize, and become a super attractive place to work, especially if we concentrate on staff well-being, inspirational duty of care, health and better working conditions, like hours and higher pay and benefits, that we all crave for. We are all connected by history, so why not become as inspirational as we can be by creating a better future.
