LIFE TEACHES YOU WHY PEOPLE STAY AND WHY THEY NEED TO GO TO GROW

As a trainers and mentors, we inspire people and help awaken dreams and aspirations that everything in life is possible and achievable if you work for it. Whilst on vacation we met inspirational people who spent their off time, enriching their knowledge by attending private courses to further their qualifications. Some spent their off time working in non related departments to acquire new experiences and skills.

A young man called Sheik, a wonderful young Butler, worked every off day, gaining knowledge of operations, whilst engaging the luxury VIP guests and assisting in Service, developing his people and communication skills and practicing the finesse and sophistication of luxury service.

Everyone needs a day of rest, but i noticed he did not look tired, he just looked inspired and happy. Another young man called Aakash, worked tirelessly to make his guests happy by personalising his cocktails to guests tastes and at the same time, learning to develop his skills and knowledge in his off time in private learning courses at great expense, with one eye on his future and one eye on service improvement, whilst sharing all his new found skills with his bar team.

Hotels can offer lots of internal training, but employees should never be totally reliant on these. Everyone has to take accountability for their own learning needs if they want to climb the ladder of success. Both these two young people took responsibility for their learning needs and inspired me to reflect on the responsibility of hotels and Hospitality in general.

Their futures are secure, because they demonstrated they have the potential to become our future leaders.Imagine for a moment that a hotels role is to look at ways to always improve service. An employees role is to improve themselves to achieve their own potential. Hand in hand, we improve, guest services improve and those who learn more are usually more inspirational to be around, and happier as a result.

As leaders, we should always find the true potential of our people. We must encourage people to look beyond themselves, to reflect who they want to become and our role is to help people achieve their aims and goals, by encouraging them to fast track their learning and achieve career success.Helping people grow is one of the biggest privileges and pleasures a true leader has.

At the end of the day, a leader will always be remembered by the impact they leave behind when they are no longer there. So, my mission from now on is to help those who want to grow, grow. We must look at ways to give people the knowledge and skills they need, as partners in hospitality where learning is more affordable, or even better for free.
